THE ROCKLAND COUNTY FILM FESTIVAL TO PREMIER MAY 2008
New City, NY October 11, 2007. In May 2008 , Rockland County will the join the communities of Tribeca, NY and Park City, Utah as it hosts a world class film festival. What makes this film festival unique is that it will be “family friendly”. It makes sense for Rockland County to have a film festival not only because it’s a beautiful, vibrant community but many of those in the show business/entertainment industry reside there.
“It is important for me and the committee to put together a film festival that the whole family can enjoy,” stated Bud Rebel, President of the Rockland County Film Festival and an independent filmmaker himself. “We want to open the doors to the filmmaker who doesn’t focus on gore and gratuitous sex. Many of these people have wonderful films to show but are often unable to get them screened because they don’t have the right connections.”
He continued “The Rockland Business Association had originally conceived of the idea of having a film festival in the county but needed someone to be the “driving force: to get this off the ground. I guess I was drafted into this position.”
Added John Kavanagh, Planning Committee Director “We are continuing to consult and seek advise from many fine organizations in Rockland County such as Arts Council Of Rockland County, and The Rivertown Film Society. Since it’s inception the interest in this festival has grown by leaps and bounds”.
The Rockland Film Festival is unique in another way. It gives the audience a role that they would never have had at another film festival. By becoming “Members” they will have the opportunity to get involved in the development of a world class film festival in many exciting ways; from getting involved in anyone of our existing committees, to helping judge award winning films and that is just the beginning.
